IDENTITY THEFT CAN BANKRUPT
YOUR BUSINESS
Identity theft training is now mandatory for just about
every business based on recent changes in the federal
laws under HIPAA, ADRS, FACTA red flag rules,
HITECH, Gramm Leach Safeguard Rules, and
numerous state laws. Fines range up to $1 million per
occurrence, up to 10 years jail time for executives,
removal of management and class action losses with
no statutory limitations. Recent changes also allow
financial penalties to be paid to victims and to their
lawyers which will increase litigation.
You should contact your attorney on how these laws
may affect you then start an affirmative defense to
show reasonable steps to protect (NPI) non-public
information and (PHI) private health information from
theft by both outside and inside your company. Not
addressing the risk of information at rest, in motion,
and in storage is a risk that could put you out of
business.
Do you have the following at your business?
Elected Identity Theft Officer
A formal plan to protect NPI and PHI
Security compliance where information is held
A formal program to teach employees about identity theft
Proper education on what to do when a breach occurs
Any size group down to a one-person entity is subject
to these laws and requirements and eight federal
agencies and any State can enforce these laws. It
also pays companies to consider policies and
procedures with regard to information and those who
manage this information. Statistics shows employees
can take up to 600 hours, mainly during business
hours, to restore their identities. "If your company
experiences a security breach, 20 percent of our
affected customer base will no longer do business
with you, 40 percent will consider ending the
relationship, and 5 percent will be hiring lawyers!"*
"When it comes to cleaning up a mess, companies on
average spend 1,600 work hours per incident at a cost of
$40,000 to $92,000 per victim."*

WE OFFER A SOLUTION
Identity Theft Protocol, Documents & Training
We start the compliance process for your company by providing
templates for the appointment of a security officer and business
associate agreements. We review a sample identity theft compliance
plan that states where information rests and how it moves highlighting
areas that need to be secured. Lastly we train your staff why
protecting information is so important, how to take steps to avoid
breaches of information and what to do if they think a breach has
occurred. Lastly we educate them what an identity theft could do to
them so they reinforce the need to protect information from all types of
prying eyes. If request, we also offer the technicians to secure your
electronic data stored on desktops, laptops, phones, copies, fax
machines, servers and backup systems using different types of
equipment and software to meet any companies budget.
Training is offered on several platforms depending on how many
locations and the number of employees. Our standard cost is $300
for the documents and one group meeting. Each additional meeting
is $100 dollars. Travel expenses over 20 miles are charges at two
dollars a mile.
Credit is given if an employer agrees to offer voluntary antitheft and
legal services through the convenience of payroll deduction to an
employee and a minimal five employees enroll.
Annual recertification is available as employees are added each year
at a substantial discount.
